Birmingham Set to Host DreamHack UK Debut

In a first for the UK, the globally recognised gaming festival, DreamHack, is scheduled to take place in Birmingham in 2026. The event, which spans three days from March 27th-29th, will be held at the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) and promises to be a huge celebration of gaming, esports and digital entertainment.

A Milestone for UK Gaming

DreamHack, which began in Sweden in 1994, has become one of the world’s most well-respected gaming festivals. Bringing the event to Birmingham highlights the UK’s growing importance in the esports market. Revenue in the UK esports market is predicted to reach $250.7 million in 2025, with user numbers expected to reach nearly 24 million by 2029.

The NEC will be transformed into a gaming haven, hosting esports tournaments, cosplay competitions, live music, creator showcases, indie game exhibitions, and tabletop gaming areas. Attendees can look forward to an immersive experience celebrating all aspects of gaming culture.

What's on Offer at DreamHack Birmingham?

The event will feature major attractions catering to a wide range of gaming interests. The ESL One Dota 2 tournament will bring world-class competitive gaming to Birmingham, whilst the Call of Duty League Major II is set to deliver intense first-person shooter action. Halo competitions will also be a key feature, giving fans the chance to see top-tier gameplay.

DreamHack Birmingham will also showcase indie games from developers across the globe, offering a platform for emerging talent to present their creations. The cosplay competition is expected to attract participants from across Europe, displaying elaborate costumes and performances celebrating beloved characters from games, anime and pop culture.

ESL One Ticket Integration

Running alongside DreamHack is ESL One Birmingham, scheduled for March 22nd-29th at bp pulse LIVE. In a move welcomed by fans, all ESL One tickets will include entrance to DreamHack, allowing attendees to experience both events. ESL One Birmingham returns for its fourth edition, featuring 16 of the world's best Dota 2 teams competing for a $1 million prize pool.

Economic Boost for Birmingham

The combined events are expected to provide significant economic benefits to Birmingham and the wider West Midlands. With nearly 40 million gamers across the country, the UK has established itself as one of Europe’s fastest-growing esports markets. Birmingham being chosen as the host city highlights the region’s commitment to establishing itself as a hub for digital entertainment and technology.

Local businesses, hotels and transport services are preparing for an influx of visitors from across the UK and abroad. The NEC’s transport links, including Birmingham International Airport and railway station, make it an ideal location for a large-scale international event.
